Tracking the Evolution of Ayi Kwei Armah’s Anti-Heroes in His First Four Novels

The paper examines the evolutionary profiles of Ayi Kwei Armah’s protagonists in his first four novels – The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born (1968), Fragments (1969), Why Are We So Blest? (1972), and Two Thousand Seasons (1973). It uses a comparative approach to establish evolutionary trends in the protagonists’ profiles progressively, from text to text. The significance of this paper is in its attempt to
illuminate further the evolving scope of Armah’s focus in his fiction as reflected in the issues and profiles of his protagonists in the aforementioned novels.
